  4. When electric, if you have a 201 adjusted correctly is operates near silently. My 15-91 (15-30/87/88/IFs as well) makes a better stitch. It's a little noisier with the tick-tick of the oscillating hook, but the 201's horizontal rotating hook causes slight pulls to the side on the stitches. Really only noticeable when comparing them side by side

Hi Elizabeth, Thank-you for directing me here from Vintage Singer Group. This is so helpful. Without the words, I felt powerless to compose an intelligent question on VSG. Knowledge is power! The other model which is sought after is the featherweight, but from what I've seen the asking price always seems to be higher than for other models

The 201-2 has hands-down the best stitch of the old Singers. Same motor different power trains. It was the Tailor's Standard of home machines. The 15-91 was known as the Farmer's Wife of home machines due to its versatility and ruggedness. I've had both, sold the 201,still own and use the 15-91 for those reasons I have a Singer 15-91, which is almost identical to a 201, in that they both use the same, built-in motor and gearing system. The only real difference I can see is the placement of the take-up and tensioning parts and thread guides. Since my 15-91 is virtually the same machine I can give you some insight into what it can and cannot sew I have a French 222k,a couple of 201's (need to sell one), an anniversary 201, a 15-91 (love that one) and a non functioning 27. I know my machine is a Singer 201, but I'm. I'm in the market for a 15-91, and came across a pretty decent Kijiji (the Craigslist alternative in Canada) set of photos. I'm 99% sure it's a 15-91, but the stitch selector plate is nickel (and beautiful). The price is great, and at the risk of losing it to your readers, do you know if there was a limited edition etc. with a nickel plate

Hi, I have a question, I have both the singer Model 15-91 and 201-2, I like the fact that the stitch on the 201 truly varies and the bigger stitches are basting stitches, while the 15-91's largest stitch is still a very tight stitch.
